Just when you thought I couldn't get any more cool stuff, this happens. Yes, you read the title correctly, and I was just as excited as you were when I saw one of my suppliers had a small batch of these. BEAUTIFUL Swiss blue-gray wool with a double breasted closure featuring the Swiss Cross on the buttons. This model was used from the 1910s all the way up through the early 1990s to keep Swiss soldiers warm, and also looking great. The quality of Swiss wool is pretty top notch on these. Soft, yet strong and comfortable.
These are literally some of the finest quality military surplus overcoats money can buy, and I rarely see them on the market anymore due to that fact. Earlier examples will have metal buttons, and post WW2 examples usually have plastic buttons. Length of sleeve was to actually be individually tailored to each soldier, so the sleeves are slightly adjustable by rolling up/down. Buttons on the chest were also to be placed to fit each soldier properly. The chests on these are not as broad as most U.S. clothing, so be aware of that.
I know I say this about a lot of things, but this is one item that I really don't have a constant source for, and these are so popular they tend to sell out right away. If you want one, this may be one of the last times, if not the last time I'll be able to get these especially at this price.
NOTES: These are all in great shape, but are still used. Please expect normal surplus imperfections like stains/grime, fading, writing, possible (not likely) very small moth-holes, and other imperfections associated with long-term military use and storage. That being said, most of these appear to be un-used, or show VERY little signs of use. Dates range from the 1930s to the 1970s from what I've seen on this small batch.
Sizing: So this utilizes the standard Swiss size chart, but factoring in wearing a wool tunic underneath. Since most of you probably won't be wearing a wool tunic underneath, I'll explain what I have found out by trying them on and correlating them with the sizes.
For an example, if you wear a size 48 Swiss Jacket, which is about a medium, you would theoretically order a size 48 overcoat to fit over your wool uniform jacket, and a 52 for a large.
However, if you are just wearing light layers like a T-shirt under the coat, I've found that you Order the size in inches that is two inches bigger than what your chest size measures.
For example, if you have a 48" Chest, you would order the size 50 overcoat. If you have a 50" Chest, you'd order a size 52 etc. I know it's a little confusing, but I wanted it to make sense depending on how you intend to wear it.
